Stages of Shipping – 3) Lifting a Yacht

After the initial lifting plan has been finalised and lifting gear checked, the first concern on the day is the berthing of the vessel, once secured in position the lifting gear is lowered into position under the boat, these positions will have been checked by looking at the relevant drawings and / or a previous knowledge of the vessel being lifted.
Once the lifting gear is in position, the lifting belt positions are then checked by the diver to make sure they are not tangled and free of the underwater gear and the lift commenced, checking that the vessel is lifted straight and level. The vessel would then be positioned over the cradle and lowered into position, once the final position is found and the relevant support split between the cradle pads and keel blocks, adjustments are made and the vessel lowered into the cradle. The vessel is then secured to the cradle and / or the deck of the ship.
